All who live in Largo are invited to come and learn more about local history at Heritage Village. This 21 acre property is an open air living history museum that includes over 31 historic structures, a gift shop, interactive activities, demonstrations, and tons of special events throughout the year. There is no admission fee, however donations are always accepted to help fund Heritage Village. Many of the structures date back to the 19th century and include a school, sponge warehouse, log cabin, a windmill, boat shop, and museum. One special exhibit is The Turner House, a 1915 Bungalow that was moved to the site with all of its contents. It tells the story of a hundred years of one family’s history.
Heritage Village is also a wonderful place for those who live in Largo to come on a field trip or volunteer. There are many resources available here for educators. Annual events include Roc Day Tampa Bay, which features local weavers and spinners; The Pinellas Folk Festival, which is a celebration of folk music; Country Jubilee, which is a giant flea market to help all get a jump on holiday gift shopping; and Holidays at the Village when the buildings are decorated true to their time period. Pinellas County property owners are also sure to enjoy The Speaking of History Lecture Series, which is a monthly event.
